3 reasons to invest in a security monitoring package

Monitoring a security system on a tablet

Business security systems should be – in the best possible way – something you don’t have to think or worry about on a day-to-day basis. The most effective systems help your business function as it should do, and can be relied on when you need them the most. That’s why it’s so important to have a service and maintenance plan – to ensure your systems are performing as they should be.

In addition to regular service and maintenance, there’s another ongoing aspect of your security service you should think about when having the relevant type of system installed – and that’s monitoring.

Usually most relevant to fire safety, intruder alarm and CCTV systems, monitoring packages can bring with them a whole host of benefits which will make your security system even more effective. Here are 3 reasons to invest in a security monitoring package.

Peace of mind, even when you’re not there

Obviously, a big threat to the safety and security of your business is when you’re not there. Unless you’ve got the resources and the need to have 24 hour “manned” security, there’s a strong chance this isn’t going to be an option for you. And unless you live in or near your business, if something goes wrong overnight, over the weekend or holiday and you’re not there, you won’t know about it, potentially until it’s too late. Having a security monitoring provider in place obviously removes this worry. Whether it’s the threat of a fire or an intruder, you’ve got the complete peace of mind that if the system is triggered, you can be alerted immediately, and take steps to prevent or minimise the risk.

It’s a requirement

When it comes to intruder alarms in particular, having a monitored system is often a requirement of both insurers and the police. In order to ensure that you’re covered by an insurance and eligible for a police response in the event of an intrusion, you should have an NSI accredited provider in place who is monitoring your system 24/7. With this in place, should the alarm be triggered, the alarm transmission system (ATS) will transmit a signal to the alarm receiving centre (ARC), the police will be notified, and so will you. This ensures that police processes are being followed and that you can get the problem resolved quickly and recoup any losses that may have occurred.

Proactive maintenance

Even if you have a maintenance plan in place, there are still going to be times in between regular engineer visits when your system experiences problems. Whether that’s false alarms, a CCTV camera with a dodgy connection, or a smoke detector which isn’t functioning correctly, you’ll want to know about it and address it sooner rather than later – again ensuring it’s there when you need it most. Through monitoring your systems remotely, your provider can easily spot any potential problems or issues with your system and make sure they are resolved as quickly as possible. The cost of your remote monitoring package could easily be eclipsed by the cost associated with a security or life safety system which isn’t functioning in the way that it’s supposed to.
