We pride ourselves on having a friendly, dedicated and highly knowledgeable sales and engineering team – who are out there in the field representing Century and delivering fantastic projects. But, as we highlighted in our recent staff spotlight on Harriet, our Operations Director, the work that goes on behind the scenes, even if not directly customer-facing, is vital to us continuing to deliver impeccable service too.

As part of our continuing series in which we feature some of the best and brightest in Century’s team, this week we chatted to Nikki Fielding, our Office Manager and self-proclaimed “procedure queen”.

How long have you been with Century?

4 years in November – I started out as part-time admin, progressed into Sales and Service Coordinator, and most recently to my role as Office Manager. It’s been fantastic to grow in my role as the business has grown.

What’s your role at Century?

I see an order through from the first enquiry that comes in all the way to the job being booked in. I work very closely with Gavin and his team to distribute sales enquiries, produce quotes, create orders, and then order parts and check them. I’m often the interface between the customer and our internal technical teams. I’m also – in my new role – overseeing the office, assessing what jobs need doing and filtering it through to the rest of the team and the two apprentices who work directly for me.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I’m the procedure queen! I love setting up new systems and writing procedures for new products and services. I also write procedures for how office-based tasks are supposed to be done, and make sure people stick to them! I’m a real problem solver and I love the variety – every day brings a different challenge. Another aspect of my role I really enjoy is training people up – it’s great to help people who come in as apprentices and see them progress into key roles in the business.

How has Century changed over the time you’ve been with us?

It’s grown massively! When I started, there were only a few of us in a small office – we’ve since relocated to Century House and pretty much doubled in size. I’ve really enjoyed seeing Century grow as a business – I’m proud to work here and see it being successful!
